Kaputaş Beach: How to Visit This Turquoise Gem Near Kaş
Kaputaş Beach is one of the most iconic spots on the Turquoise Coast, located along the main road between Kaş and Kalkan. It’s 20 km from Kaş and just 7 km from Kalkan. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you see cars lined up along the roadside—especially in summer, when the beach becomes a magnet for sun-seekers.
Nestled between steep cliffs at the mouth of Kaputaş Canyon, the beach is also known locally as Kanyon Ağzı Plajı (“Canyon Mouth Beach”). No development is allowed here, as the area is under environmental protection. One of the beach’s unique features is the cold spring water flowing from the canyon into the sea, giving the water its distinctive turquoise hue.
Getting There
Once you’ve parked, you’ll descend nearly 180 steps from the road to the beach below. Don’t forget to stop and take a photo from the top—many say the view alone is worth the visit, especially near sunset.
⚠️ A safety note: While the cliffs and rocks beside the road make for dramatic photos, they’re also dangerous. We recommend using the stairway for your photo ops instead of climbing onto rocky outcrops.
Although the steps can feel like a lot, the increasingly beautiful view with each step makes the descent worthwhile. Some people hesitate because of the stairs, but almost everyone is glad they made the effort.
What to Expect at Kaputaş Beach
When you reach the beach, you’ll find sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent at a small fee. There’s also a government-run wooden café offering simple meals—hamburgers, sandwiches, fries, pizzas, ice creams, and cold drinks at reasonable prices.
Showers and toilets are located behind the restaurant. These showers use cold mountain spring water—refreshing on hot summer days! Note that shampoo and soap are not permitted, in order to protect the environment.
The beach itself is made up of golden sand mixed with small pebbles, gentle on the feet. The sea here is often choppy, with foamy waves breaking on the shore. The water deepens quickly, so it’s great fun for swimmers but families with small children should stay cautious. Belongings left too close to the water’s edge may get pulled in by the waves.
Even if you don’t rent a sunbed, you're welcome to lay your towel down wherever you like. The beach season at Kaputaş begins in May and often continues well into November—longer than in many other parts of the country.
Nearby Attraction: The Blue Cave

You can reach it by boat—it’s 18 km from Kaş, 6 km from Kalkan, and well worth the trip. The cave is a highlight for many visitors exploring the coastline by sea.
